“BTE’s interpretation of the notice. After review of the document BTE have listed some key interpretations below”
- You can still run PBS if you want.
- The same bridge formula’s are being used. All current BTE sales drawings are still correct. You must meet the same internal dimensions as you did previously.
- The 6.5t steer eligibility still has the same criteria as previous.
- The minimum Truck Wheel Base (TWB on the document) is 4,500mm. This means that most European cab over trucks will not meet the requirements of the notice and will still require PBS.
- There are restrictions on overall height of the vehicles. Engineering will need to discuss this with certain applications if required. Basically there are 2 categories. Under 3.0m overall height (not including tarps) and between 3.0 and 3.3m overall. Anything over 3.3m heigh will need PBS. Based on 3.3m overall the max’ body height is approx. 1,970mm on the truck, and approx. 1,900mm high on the dog.
- There is also a minimum wheelbase required for the dog. On a quarry spec (lower sides) the length of dog should not be an issue. When we go over 3.0m overall in height, then we need to stay over 8.0m in length for the dog trailer.
- It should be noted that on low sided combinations, drawbars are allowed to exceed 5.0m. However we will still have to nominate the trailer Model as “4 axle dog O.D.” on the VIN plate.
- There are conspicuity requirements. Click under the “Vehicle Conditions” tab on this link to get more information - click here . Please note, the Truck Cab needs conspic’s as well.
- There are some councils that are not participating in this notice. Please click this link to see which councils are, and which councils are not participating - click here . Off the network access can be applied for via the NHVR portal. The process appears to be explained on the link.
- In Victoria the level 1 and 2A route maps hold true. If the desired road is not on that map a permit should be obtained if the vehicle does not meet GA requirements. Links to these access maps, as well as other States requirements can be found here - click here
- Some basic FAQs can be found here - click here
- We have not been able to find any reference to tyres on the notice.
- Load sensing brakes do not meet the requirements of this notice. Trucks must have ABS as a minimum, Trailers must have EBS as a minimum.
- IAP may be required in some jurisdictions (Queensland is one of them to go above 16.5t on a tandem axle group).
